Tapolcai Reprodukciós Intézet
(previously Pannon Reprodukciós Intézet)
About our Institution

The Pannon Reproductive Institute in Tapolca began its operations in October 2000. Established through private investment, the Institute is located in a pleasant, residential area of the city center, renovated from a former kindergarten to suit its specialized functions. In 2014, the Institute expanded with a new building and today, patient care is provided over an area of approximately 1,100 square meters. Through continuous development, the Institute has been equipped with the most advanced instruments, and now offers all assisted reproductive procedures permitted in Hungary at a high standard of care.
Following multiple ownership changes, from October 2004 until December 2019, the Institute operated as an affiliated institution of the Kaáli Institute before coming under state ownership. As of May 1, 2023, all former private institutes were merged into a single economic entity, and the Tapolca Institute now functions as a branch of Dunamenti REK Reproduction Center Ltd.
The Institute distinguishes itself from other branches by having a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund of Hungary (NEAK) for outpatient services, including gynecological and andrological examinations and treatments. The andrology outpatient clinic provides diagnostic tests otherwise only available at private institutions, such as DNA fragmentation analysis (measuring sperm DNA integrity) and the ROS test (Reactive Oxygen Species measurement). Additionally, specialized sperm selection techniques are available, enhancing the likelihood of selecting the most viable sperm for fertilization. If sperm cannot be isolated from ejaculate, biopsies of testicular tissue can also be performed on-site.
Currently, the Institute is Hungary’s third-largest assisted reproduction center by patient volume, with nearly 3,000 infertility interventions conducted annually, including approximately 1,300 fresh in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles, around 800 frozen embryo transfers, and about 700 artificial inseminations.
The Institute’s Medical Director is Dr. Attila Török, a Candidate of Medical Sciences, Habilitated Doctor, and a private lecturer at the University of Pécs. The Chief Embryologist, Dr. Gábor Máté, holds a PhD and Senior Embryologist certification from the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE). In addition to daily clinical work, the Institute engages in scientific research and collaborates actively with other institutions, such as participating in the extensive research conducted by the National Human Reproduction Laboratory.
